A message from the Mayor of Barnsley was one of many tributes of praise for drivers at leading bus operator Stagecoach Yorkshire for efforts to keep services going during the recent snow. The Mayor Cllr John Parkinson contacted Stagecoach thanking drivers for their valiant work following the heavy snow fall, arctic temperatures  and ice across the region.

Cllr Parkinson, who uses Stagecoach’s service 1 in Mapplewell, said: “I would like to pass on my thanks to drivers on route 1 for their commitment to keeping the service on the road. The conditions on the roads were awful but they certainly put customers first. They are the "face" of Stagecoach and the directors should be proud.”

The company has received many other letters and emails from members of the public praising drivers for their commitment to run as much of the network as possible and keep passengers warm, dry and safe on the roads.

Paul Lynch, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “Our drivers worked tirelessly to keep services running across the region for our passengers and thoroughly deserve this praise. There was one particular day when we felt that keeping buses on the roads could be a potential danger. As a result, we temporarily pulled back services to the depot because customer and driver safety is of paramount importance. However, we resumed some routes as soon as conditions improved later in the day. We are a company with strong family values and there is a real sense of comradeship amongst our team. Stagecoach drivers are true ambassadors for the organisation and we are grateful for their efforts during these challenging weather conditions.”
