South Yorkshire Transport | News // Further industrial action at First Group in SY

A bus strike planned to take place in Sheffield on Remembrance Sunday has been called off by Unite, the union which represents the bus drivers at First South Yorkshire. Unite had planned a weekend of action in a dispute over disciplinary issues at First South Yorkshire's Olive Grove depot in Sheffield.

First said an "outbreak of public anger" to plans for a strike on Remembrance Sunday led to unions calling off industrial action. Strikes planned for Saturday 7th November and Sunday 15th November are still scheduled to go ahead, First South Yorkshire said.

A new date of industrial action has also been announced, this time being on Thursday November 12th.

The dispute centres on disciplinary issues at the companies Olive Grove bus depot. The Unite union said the issues included grievances over the way the company handled workers who had taken sickness leave and First's "attitude to disciplinary action."

The planned strikes by Olive Grove will mean that all services within Sheffield and parts of Rotherham that are currently served by Olive Grove services will not run on the 3 days listed above.
